The primary role for honor guards has been to provide funeral honors for fallen comrades, and to serve as the "guardians of the colors" by displaying and escorting the national flags on ceremonial occasion and at official Ancient Order of Hibernian functions. The NYS AOH District #1 Honor Guard specifically reflects the image of the Hibernian Honor Guards of the 1870's and 1880’s with the full respect, duty, and honor that has been handed down from brother to brother since the Ribbonmen & Defenders of the early 1800’s. Each member of the honor guard is dedicated to the service of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the values expressed therein.
